Let’s Take the Guesswork Out of Getting Started.
Drawing should be fun—not frustrating.
If you’re staring at a blank canvas wondering what to do next, you’re not alone. I’ve gathered beginner-friendly tips, creative nudges, and quick lessons to help you start (and keep) drawing with confidence.
What’s in My Toolbox?
A curated list of tools, tutorials, and resources that helped me when I was just getting started with digital illustration. Whether you’re a designer or a beginner, I hope it makes your creative journey a little easier—and a lot more fun.

Beginner-Friendly Drawing Courses to Get You Going
If you’re like me and love making art but sometimes get stuck staring at a blank screen, good tutorials can be total game-changers.
A few of my favorite digital art instructors are Lisa Bardot, Aurélie Maron, and Floortje Visser—each brings their own unique style, energy, and creative spark. Drawing consistently (even just a quick daily doodle) is a game-changer for building confidence and developing your skills in a way that feels totally manageable. Tutorials are also the perfect nudge to try something new and stretch beyond your creative comfort zone.

Procreate for Beginners
This was such a helpful intro—it got me comfortable with the iPad, Apple Pencil, and all the key drawing gestures. It’s super beginner-friendly and definitely worth checking out!

Art with Flo
Flo’s Tutorial’s are a great next step to—she breaks everything down in a calm, super approachable way. The finished drawing looks so good, it’ll have you thinking, “Okay, what’s next?”

Retro Sign Masterclass 2.0
Want to level up your lettering game? The Retro Sign Masterclass 2.0 by Aurélie Maron is a total gem. It breaks down vintage sign-inspired lettering step by step—with textures, shading, and serious style.
Books, Brushes and More …
A peek at my design bookshelf—these go-to reads have helped me build skills, spark ideas, and explore everything from using stock brushes to creating my own. Great if you’re ready to level up your tools or even try making your own typeface.

Creative Fuel: My Favourite Design Books
Every designer’s journey is shaped by the books that inspire and guide them. These three are my constant companions: In Progress by Jessica Hische, The Golden Secrets of Lettering by Martina Flor, and Drawing Digital by Lisa Bardot. From sketch to screen, they’re packed with insight, technique, and creative fuel. And these are just the beginning—my shelf is always growing, and yours can too.

Procreate Brush Basics + Beyond
Procreate’s stock brushes are seriously underrated—they’re a solid starting point and more powerful than people give them credit for. But once you start exploring custom brushes? It’s a whole new world. (Fair warning: collecting them can get a little addictive.)
Whether you’re refining your style or just starting out, the right brushes can add serious personality and depth to your work. I’ve gathered a few high-quality brushes I’ve loved using—and while I’m at it, I’m also working on my own custom brush set, designed for smooth, expressive strokes with just the right texture. Launching later this summer—stay tuned!

Your Handwriting, Now Editable
Did you know you can even make a typeface from your own handwriting? I did just that so I can keep that “handwritten” look for my graphics and make editing a breeze.
